The healing onion

We always keep onions in our kitchens since practically every dish we make would be incomplete without them. It’s more of a requirement because we believe our dish will be completed without golden brown sautéed onions. But did you know that onions have a lot more health benefits than just increasing flavour? The allium family of vegetables and herbs, which includes chives, garlic, scallions, and leeks, contains this stacked vegetable. Allium crops are known for their distinctive, pungent flavours as well as their therapeutic benefits. Onions come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, and flavours. Red, yellow, and white onions are the most common onion varieties. Onions can be sweet and juicy, spicy and pungent, depending on how they’re prepared.They are low in calories and high in beneficial nutrients like vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They also contain small amounts of iron, potassium, calcium, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, and the antioxidants quercetin and sulphur. 

According to the health expert, onions can cure colds, coughs, high fever, sore throat and boosts immunity. All you need to do is cut some onion and soak it in drinking water for about six to eight hours. You can drink three to four tablespoon of this water thrice a day for better health. 

Boost Immunity

Onions contain phytochemicals that function as vitamin C boosters in the body. Vitamin C strengthens your immune system by combating pollutants that can cause a variety of ailments and chronic illnesses. Selenium, sulphur compounds, zinc, and vitamin C are all immune-boosting elements found in onions. Furthermore, they are one of the richest sources of quercetin, a powerful flavonoid and antioxidant with antiviral and histamine-regulating characteristics. 

Curing cough

Coughs can be effectively treated at home with onions. To do this, slice an onion and place it in a basin. Mix in some drinking water. Three to four teaspoons of the combination can be consumed three times each day. Make sure you consume it fresh.

Sooth sore throat

As previously stated, onions contain sulphur compounds that aid in the battle against mucus and stimulate mucus expulsion from the airways. Onion is one of the most effective natural antibiotics, capable of fighting both viral and bacterial infections while also alleviating sore throat symptoms.

Treating High Fever 

Onion is a common and flexible element in Indian folk medicines for persistent fever treatment. It aids in the reduction of body temperature and the relief of body aches induced by fever. Simply cut one onion into small pieces and place in a big mixing dish. Add some drinking water and leave it for 6–7 hours. This cocktail should be consumed three to four times each day. This drink will aid in the treatment of high fevers as well as increasing overall immunity.

What are some home remedies for onion tears?

As much as they may sting, onions are merely annoying and not dangerous to your eyes. 

Even so, you’ll want to treat irritated, burning eyes quickly to eliminate redness and reduce discomfort. Here are some tips to reduce crying from onion irritation:

  • Put distance or a barrier between yourself and the raw onion you’re cutting. Put the sliced onions under glass or elongate your workstation. 
  • Rinse your eyes with cool, clean water.
  • Place a cool compress or cool cucumbers over your eyes to help reduce irritation.
  • Use lubricating eye drops to flush out the eyes.
  • Use other sore eye remedies, such as cotton balls soaked with aloe vera gel and water or sterile castor oil eye drops.
